After taking a week off to recover from my long weekend in Miami for the 16th Ultra Music Festival, I'm back with some sweet aural enjoyment for the middle of your week. As I'm sure anyone who was there could tell you, Miami was a blast, and I wanted no parts of leaving that paradise to get back into the grind here in DC. From Gaia to Deadmau5, Don Diablo to Above & Beyond, and Clockwork to Pryda, there was plenty of talent that came out to put on a good show! All in all, it inspired a whole lot of new music listening the last week, so here's what I'm listening to right now.
One of the things I was most excited for at Ultra was Armin van Buuren's ASOT 650 stage on Sunday, featuring the best and brightest trance artists from around the world. But it was Armin himself, as Gaia that stole the show. Cloaked in hooded robes, never addressing the crowd, and spinning nothing but amazing trance, it was a phenomenal set. Mostly unrelated to that, here is a new one off of AVB's Armind impression by Bogdan Vix and Renee Stahl, entitled "Forever".
This is a new track that I kept catching in sets the last few weeks, but never took the time to look up or hunt down. The original track "Jealous" by Chromeo isn't just catchy, it's downright infectious. And let's face it, it strikes a chord fellas, we've all been there, but I'm personally also too cool to admit it. So fresh, the vinyl is still warm, is this remix by the legendary Benny Benassi! With some added melodic breaks and the classic Benassi style, I AM with this one!
Speaking of tracks that were blowing up sets, "You" by Galantis was all over Miami! My friend and fellow DC music blogger EDM Girl first turned me on to this Swedish duo a while back, and ever since then, I've been hooked. But it wouldn't be "Something Different" without something crazy. Seattle producer Instant Party wasn't content with this airy progressive pop tune, and brings in some trap drums and bass, which actually end up working really well, giving "You" an extra edge.
I think I can speak for the entire Banger of the Day team when I say, Miami was once again an amazing city to visit. Check Ultra Music Festival off of the bucket list too. It was an exciting start to the 2014 festival season, and Coachella is already here this coming weekend. But with no solid plans in place, the summer is prett much an open book, and I'm really excited to see it what it might have in store!
