As the EDM scene has exploded over the past few years, it seems that the newest hotspot for festivals is Mexico, and why not? Mexico has long been a destination for young travelers looking for a good time, with beautiful beaches, cheap liquor, permissive authorities and attractive locals. Now that EDM is a mega-commodity in the USA, the playas are only a short flight away for gringoes looking to get a little fun in the sun during the winter months.
The biggest party of the year is surely the BPM festival, a ten-day-long sun-soaked bacchanal in Playa del Carmen in the Yucantan, featuring mega-acts like John Digweed and Carl Cox alongside literally hundreds of others, but it is far from the only one. Last year, the Bounce Festival went on for an entire month in Puerto Vallarta, and featured acts like Paul Oakenfold and Savoy. Inception Festival 2013 capitalized on the storied tradition of Spring Break in Cancun with a month of parties featuring Tiesto, Afrojack and loads more. Dash Berlin, Hardwell, Zedd and Armin van Buuren all recently toured in Mexico.
Is Mexico the new Ibiza? With grade-A parties that last for weeks on end and beaches as far as the eye can see, it doesn't seem like much of a stretch!
