What perfect timing to drop the 20th ever Bangers of the Week: right in the middle of one of the largest celebrations of dance music, culminating this weekend in the fabled Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Florida. The Winter Music Conference is a 30+ year old gathering of musicians, industry vets, and fans, filled with educational sessions and some of the first parties of the festival season. I've been celebrating MMW all week over at bangeroftheday.com, and so what better way to keep the party going and get all my Dashers ready for Ultra than a Miami themed Bangers of the Week!
Armin Van Buuren will be doing it big at Ultra once again this year, broadcasting from his ASOT stage on Sunday, with plenty of big trance names on the billing. Definitely expecting a strong showing from AVB and company, and I'm pretty sure you know where you'll be able to find me most of the day Sunday. For Something Trance today, I have a very appropriately titled "Miami" remix by Armada artist Aimoon, with the original coming from Vlad Varel.
It appears notorious cake-thrower and party starter (and Miami native) Steve Aoki has been putting in serious work in the studio the past few months, as he has been releasing all sorts of new music lately, and finished some major collaborations with artists from across the board. This new banger, with support from Diplo and Deorro, is some classic Aoki hype music. While Diplo's Moombah influence can definitely be felt, this is an Aoki electro rage track through and through.
Although not the biggest festival, Ultra is the first major festival of the year, and kicks off the season in late March every year. It has been the site where many careers have really jump started, is a place for plenty of musical experimentation, and sadly, is also the place where the collective career of supergroup Swedish House Mafia came to an end last year. One of my favorite SHM songs, "Miami 2 Ibiza" gets a heavy dubstep remix treatment courtesy of Gemini. Nothing can compete with the original, but this mix brings a whole lot of bass!
I'm excited to be heading off to my first Ultra Music Festival soon, in a weekend that should be full of excitement and great music. On top of a long weekend escaping this never ending winter, I'll get a chance to catch up with a lot of great friends and artists who I've met on this journey which started over a year ago and continues hear at DBW. If you are making the trip to Miami, hit me up and come say "Hi!"
