After the ASOT 550 celebrations in London, Belgrade, Moscow and Kiev, A State of Trance 550 strikes down at the Beyond Wonderland festival in Los Angeles, USA. The west coast of USA will enjoy an entire ASOT stage, the so called ‘Queen’s Domain’, with the best of trance DJ’s. In a mind-blowing scenery, DJ’s Aly & Fila, Gareth Emery, Shogun, Arty, John O’Callaghan, Fei-Fei, Sied van Riel and of course Armin van Buuren will be trembling the grounds of the NOS Event Center, for the world to know!
Line-up March 17th, Beyond Wonderland – Los Angeles, US
Are you ready to get Feided? Is it Trance? Techno? Dubstep? To be blunt, it's kind of like getting your face kicked in, but in a good way. Fei-Fei aka the bad girl of EDM, as dubbed by Tiesto himself, is bringing the heat and her last track Mosh Pit is a downright aggressive beast. Hammered all over Radio 1 and the summer's biggest festivals, Mosh Pit is the hottest secret weapon of all the top jocks, wracking up some heavy reactions from all across the board--Judge Jules, Armin Van Buuren, Christopher Lawrence, Dash Berlin, Mat Zo, Leon Boiler, Tydi, Super 8 and Tab, John Askew and many more.
But summer is just heating up for the bad girl as the Feided Junkies eagerly await the release of the big summer vocal tune, This Is Our Night. With early support from Markus Schulz, Paul Van Dyk and Tiesto, it's getting hot in here! But be warned, this isn't your typical vocal tune, Fei-Fei delivers it rough rugged and raw, and comes fully loaded just in time to celebrate the Feided label's 1 Year Anniversary. Watch the new music video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKkx91bvFIE
LA based Fei-Fei is on fire with a string of chart topping releases on her own Feided imprint. Having released on Armada and Vandit in the past, Feided is keepin' it real and serving up some serious bass for the true underground. Feided blasted onto the scene ripping all the way to the coveted #1 and #2 spot on the Beatport and Siruis XM Charts with Fei-Fei's tracks Semi-Automatic and Daksa, both debuting on Tiesto's Club Life. And with the support of just about every heavy hitter in the scene, who wouldn't want to get feided?
But seriously, all genres aside, who cares. Get Feided.
American producer, Andrew Chen aka Shogun, is the first Asian DJ and producer to be signed to S107/Armada. Whether it is remixing for the world’s number one DJ – Armin van Buuren, or for Grammy nominated singer and songwriter Nadia Ali, Shogun’s productions have gained him full support from the biggest names in the industry including Ferry Corsten, Paul Van Dyk, Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Gareth Emery, and Markus Schulz just to name a few.
With some of the biggest anthems to date, ‘Save Me’, ‘Imprisoned’, ‘Run To My Rescue’ and ‘Skyfire’, Shogun has cemented his place as one of the most influential and biggest trance/progressive acts today and his songs have regularly been featured on the world’s leading radio shows such as Vonyc Sessions, Trance Around The World, Corsten’s Countdown, Global DJ Broadcast, and A State of Trance Radio Show – [32 ASOT plays / 5 Future Favorites].
Voted into the DJ Mag 2011 world rankings at #122, Shogun has headlined events across the globe and also served as resident DJ for the prominent Ministry of Sound nightclub for over 3 years. His exclusive nine hour sets at the superclub set the standard for epic nights that can only be described as an emotional and amazing journey. These sets were also broadcasted live on Ministry of Sound Radio to thousands of listeners worldwide.
With the constant productions of top quality releases and the DJ skills to rock the best clubs in the world, the future is already written for this rising trance artist.
The Riel Deal: From the prolific electronic dance breeding ground that is The Netherlands, with close to overnight speed, in 2008 he landed. In that year alone he was tipped by Tiësto as “the hottest producer around”, by DJ Magazine as “the next big thing to hit trance” and took home Trackitdown.net’s Trance Award for the scene’s ‘Best New Face’. 12 lightning-fast months later he’d qualified all those early markers through a fleet of equatorially hot track releases, club-hypnotizing DJ performances and a ‘next-level’ remix ethic. In 2009 he played over 60 show-stopping sets (which included spinning at an incredible 7 world-class events in just 9 days). It was an achievement which culminated in him making his debut on DJ Magazine’s Top 100 2009 DJs chart. He’s the latest DJ to graduate to trance music’s ‘Van Clan’ hierarchy. He is Sied van Riel...
The Riel-eases: Following several notable ‘early years’ releases (including ‘Fearless’ on Subtraxx and the PVD-championed ‘My Dreams’ on Expedition), Van Riel started to beat a path to the dancefloor. In 2007 he was signed to Dutch super-label Spinnin’ Records; a move which bore immediate fruit through dancefloor bullets like ‘Changing Places’, ‘Sigh’ and ‘What You Want’. With the quality-control locked in place, his production career went supernova as ‘Contrasts’, ‘Minimal Symphony’, ‘One’/’Two’ & ‘Riel People Know’ brought mayhem to dancefloors throughout 2008. In August of that year the track ‘Rush’ was un-caged and marked not only a first release through Tiësto’s Black Hole Records but also Sied’s vital breakthrough record. Thrashed by Armin, Ferry Corsten, PVD and (naturally enough) Tiësto, its nu-skool tech-trance sound surged through the world’s festivals and arenas. The Liquid Recordings released ‘MME’ (which was part of the ‘Dedication EP’) & ‘Mongoosed’, and the Black Hole follow-up ‘Sunrise’ arrived in 2009, provoking similar floor-quaking upheaval.
The Riel Floor-Rocker: Sied cut his DJ teeth early in his career playing at events like Germany’s illustrious Love Parade and Tiësto’s round-the-world ‘ISOS’ Tour. FFWD three years and he is become a essential mainstay of festivals and arena events, which have included the goliath Netherlands Trance Energy, Armin’s country-hopping ASOT400, the 4-gig-long Trance Energy Australia tour, Gatecrasher’s 15th Birthday event, Planet Love and the legendary Crobar in Buenos Aires. Through far-sighted track selection, marksman-like mixing and an intrinsic ability to read crowds he has raced through the ranks of DJs. This rise was brought into the sharpest possible focus when Van Riel entered the DJ Magazine Top 100 Chart in 2009 at No.85.
In Riel Time: In late August of 2009 Sied released his first CD compilation. A double disc outing, ‘In Riel Time Vol.1’ became the ultimate at-home, in-car platform to experience the Van Riel sound. It proved a sales smash on Beatport and was made Album of the Month in Mixmag. The magazine noted that Sied had “rapidly gained in status over the last year” and that the album itself brought with it “one intense peak-time track after another”. In 2011 he brings you "Rielism". A brand new compilation series on Black Hole Recordings. The first one being released on may 4th.
Sied4Life: In late 2008 Sied became an official Dance4Life Ambassador. Donating tracks to the D4L albums and DJing at fund-raisers for the charity (which works to improves the lives of HIV and AIDS sufferers), he is a proud member of the charity’s team.
The Riel-Mixes: For the last 3 years Sied’s been lending the Riel touch to tracks from the worlds finest trance labels (including Armada, Black Hole, Spinnin’, Flashover and High Contrast). In that time he’s captured the minds of music lovers, re-touching tracks by luminaries like Armin van Buuren & Ferry Corsten and Offer Nissim.
The Rielism Radio Show: Following numerous radio appearances (inc. Ministry of Sound – UK, Sunshine Live Maximal, Germany & Radio 538 in The Netherlands), Sied launched his own radio show,
Rielism in 2008. Transmitted every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month on www.ah.fm, it has immediately drawn a loyal and ever growing listener-ship.
Ireland is known for many things: Guinness, shamrocks, and now - John O'Callaghan. Firmly established in the A-list trance elite, John O'Callaghan is set to continue his journey further up the ladder of electronic dance superstardom. John's high- energy trance mix coupled with a highly refined precision mixing style has seen him surge up through the DJ ranks. Spinning his first Radio 1 Essential Mix in the summer of 2008, the gifted 29 year old was one of only 4 trance DJs to do so during the year. Immediately following that, he made his debut in DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs rundown, arriving at No.60. In the 2009 chart he became one of the year's highest climbers, leaping 36 places into the world's top 25 (at number 24) and cemented his place as Ireland's foremost DJ & producer. In 2010 he held his own and remained in the Top 40 at number 33, in a year where house music exploded into the poll – this was a great achievement to maintain his rank. In his home country he has picked up the Best DJ awards at the Irish Dance Music Awards for 3 consecutive years; decisively conquered the notoriously competitive testing ground of Ibiza and was the first Irishman to play Trance Energy. John has achieved so much already but this is just the beginning of a trance legacy.
Production: Since making his first moves into music production 9 years ago, O'Callaghan's notched-up over 50 productions and released them on some of the most respected labels in the industry. Early club-anthems like 'The Chamber', 'Exactly' & 'Space & Time' became mainstays of DJs sets and along the way prompted Paul van Dyk to comment that he is “one of the most exciting producers in the world today”. Soon after, John produced 'Big Sky'... off the back of an extended 4-month- long club & radio hammering from the big 5, it was voted the No.1 trance tune of 2007 on Armin's ASOT show. From there, 'Big Sky' took on a life of its own and has now reached the status of a modern trance classic. 'Find Yourself', taken from the Never Fade Away album, has had massive global success with all the big name DJs playing it regularly in their sets and has also reached a monumental 2 million views on YouTube to date. John also produces through a number of pseudonyms, including Joint Operations Centre and J.O.C. Under the latter he displays his affinity of techno-fringed productions, supported by a who's who of techno and progressive jocks.
Forthcoming Album 'Unfold': April 15th will see the release of John's 3rd and arguably most well crafted album. 'Unfold' comprises of 14 tracks, which cross the boundaries of all fields of dance music, from chill-out to techtrance, from uplifting vocals to banging melodies; Unfold ticks the boxes, and then some! With the first single 'Talk to Me' being played by a verified Top 10 of trance legends, the album looks set to follow suit.
'Never Fade Away' & 'Subculture': In the latter half of 2009, John again reached into the heartland of electronic dance with both his second artist album and the first edition of his new compilation series. Containing the hit singles 'Find Yourself', 'Never Fade Away', 'Out of Nowhere' and his Giuseppe Ottaviani collaboration 'Our Dimension', broadened John's appeal yet further still. Conquering the hearts & minds of both fans and press, it scaled the highest reaches of global dance charts, and burned through high rotation radio playlists worldwide. 'Subculture' quickly followed – an innovative hybrid artist/mix album that premiered freshly produced material including 'Cramped', 'Backup' & 'Striker'. Tracks that went on to be wholeheartedly hammered by deeper-minded DJs including Sander van Doorn & Marco V.
DJ: John caught his first DJ'ing break playing on national Irish radio station 2FM's 'Sessions Tour'. From the DJ booth he has gone on to throw trance-fire onto the floors of some of the world's highest-profile clubs, arenas and festivals. Counted amongst them are Planet Love, Lush, WMC in Miami, Rain in Las Vegas and Creamfields. He is also a regular fixture in Ibiza, road blocking Cream @ Amnesia throughout the course of summer 2010, as well as his yearly trip to Eden for Judgement Sundays. O'Callaghan has also expanded his fanbases into Eastern Europe and North & South America (playing Sunrise Festival, San Francisco's LovEvolution, LA's Monster Massive, and his Brazil/Paraguay/Argentina tour inside the last year). In March of 2009 John played the main-stage at Trance Energy – now universally regarded as the pinnacle apex of the trance calendar and in 2010 he has also taken one of the much-prized residency positions on Godskitchen's 2010 Globalgathering World Tour. Following another successful season in Ibiza being hotly tipped as “future Cream star” John rocked the main room 6 times, and has been asked to return in 2011 due to popular demand. Throw in a 3 week Australia & Asia tour, extensive trips to Canada and the USA, along with an upcoming album tour and WMC onslaught, this just about sums up John's non stop DJ travel diary.
The Subculture Radio Show: For the last three years John has presented his take on the trance scene through his Subculture show on the industry-leading station DI.FM. Subculture presents a crystal-clear monthly snapshot of John's in-and-out of club sound, exploring the outer reaches of electronic music. The show goes out at 5pm UK time on the 2nd Monday of the month, noon US EST and 6pm CET.
The Subculture Label: In February 2010, after the radio show and compilation, John took the next evolutionary step and launched Subculture: the label. In cooperation with industry giant Armada, the imprint quickly started to showcase John and other likeminded musicians' tracks, kicking off with his own floor-pounding 'Striker'.
Subculture Events: 2010 has been the year of Subculture, with John's own events selling out at each location. Lush in Northern Ireland had its doors closed at 10pm due to a capacity crowd, a record-breaking feat. The Subculture brand has quickly built momentum with such success that John has recently played at Tripod in Dublin, which is commonly known as the best club in Southern Ireland and sold out his feverishly awaited debut. Subculture nights are quickly becoming such a success in Ireland that there are plans afoot to take it further afield, in 2011 the brand expands to the UK where Subculture will rock at the legendary Arches alongside the Inside Out brand, and onwards to Passion where it will take over at the infamous Emporium.
John O'Callaghan Remixes: Although his studio career carries more of an original production bias, John has lent his musical skill to many exceptional remixes. In 2005 his debut came in the form of the hugely received rewiring of fellow countrymen Agnelli & Nelson's 'Shiver'. From there he went on to rework (amongst others) John Askew's 'How Can I Put This', Ronski Speed's 'The Space We Are' & Filo & Peri's 'Anthem'. So taken was Armin by John's 2008 remix of 'If You Should Go' that he took the rare step of asking O'Callaghan to rework a second track from his 'Imagine' album. With another album in the wings Armin has asked John yet again to remix the first track 'Full Focus' from his 'Mirage' album, this time under his Joint Operations Centre alias. John's remix of The Doppler Effect's 'Beauty Hides in the Deep' became a cult hit within the trance fraternity and 2009 and 2010 has seen him go on to remix material from a number of A-list trance heavyweights, as well as a multitude of highly sought after reworks and bootlegs for JOC sets only. In June 2010, John remixed Jon O'Bir ft Fisher – Found A Way under the Joint Operations Centre alias, which hit the number 1 spot on the Beatport charts. He is widely regarded as one of the most indemand remixers in electronic dance music today.
Since their burst onto the international clubbing consciousness with their massive hit “Eye of Horus” back in 2003, they have been a full-on inspiration to clubbers and DJs alike. Their euphoric, uplifting blend of sweeping trance has seen them rise to an A-list status alongside the likes of Armin Van Buuren, Blank & Jones, Ferry Corsten and many more.
At the forefront of the next generation of dance music superstars, they’ve already broken through the worldwide clubbing spectrum. Tracks released on such as “Eye of Horus”, “Spirit of Ka”, “A Dream Of Peace”, “Ankh – Breath of Life” and “Thebes” have earned them worldwide critical acclaim from the press and fellow artists. Their remix work in 2007 alone is staggering, putting their touch to tracks like “Whatever – Lost Witness vs Sassot”, “Why – FKN* ft Jahala”, “Tears of Hope – Deems” and many more.
2008 also saw a huge surge on the production side, which started early in the year when Aly & Fila mixed the massive “Trance World 2 Compilation” on heavyweight record label Armada. Their production and remix schedule showed no signs of letting up, as they not only released an impressive array of huge tunes on “Offshore Music”, but also applied their masterful remix skills to a number of high profile hits and artists.
As 2008 headed to a close, Aly & Fila continued their assault on the dance music scene, sweeping nominations and highly respectable positions in the biggest dance music polls worldwide. They were the 3rd highest new entry in the 2008 DJ Mag Awards as they reached the #31 position, up 80 places from 2007. Ranking #12 in Trance Addicts top 250 Poll. Voted one of the top remixers of the year at the 2008 Trance awards, and currently sit in the top 40 position at the world’s largest DJ Poll, DJList.com.
2009 also started at a rapid pace on the awards side, with Aly & Fila being nominated for Best Break Through DJ at the 2009 International Music Awards at the Winter Conference in Miami, alongside Deadmau5 and Laidback Luke.
As we entered 2009, the productions came at us thick and fast, with remixes and originals released on their own record label Future Sound of Egypt Recordings. With touring every week to the biggest events worldwide such as Trance Energy, Trance Energy tour of Australia, A State of Trance 400 with Armin Van Buuren for 3rd year in row, A State of Trance @ Amnesia, Ibiza, tours of America, South America, Europe all in 2009 saw their following and profile raise again. 2009 has come to a close with again amazing success in the DJ Polls. In DJ Mag Top 100 2009 Aly & Fila climbed 9 places to #22, and are also #12 in the Trance Addict Top 250 DJ Poll.
They have also become widely renowned for their energetic, live performances, which has enhanced their all round appeal to audiences around the globe. Having played at most major festivals, nightclubs and events the electronic music scene has to offer, Aly & Fila continue to take on the world, one party at a time. 2009 year has also seen the launch of their own label “The Future Sounds of Egypt”, (a sub label of “Offshore Music”) and will not only feature their own productions, but will also make way for some up and coming new talent, that the duo will introduce to the world.
2010 already started with a bang with heavy tour schedule including Armin Van Buuren A State of Trance 450 Event for 4th year in row, headlining The Gallery @ Ministry of Sound, tour of India, Russia tour, Bangkok, Finland, Prague, Estonia, Intuition Holland, Canada, Los Angeles and a tour of United States of America, Argentina, Chile, Slovakia, Greece, Russia, China, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Germany, to name but a few
Also 2010 has seen Aly & Fila and Future Sound of Egypt Record Label have joined Armada Music. The debut artist Album of Aly & Fila called Rising Sun came out on Armada Music on May 28th 2010 www.armadamusic.com
Also Aly & Fila Remix of Armin Van Buuren's Gaia - Aisha was featured on Armin's A State of Trance Radio Show 467, and also Aly & Fila Remix of Solarstone - Touchstone was Tune of the Week on Armins ASOT 468 episode, and this week Aly & Fila - 'Paradise' is featured on Armin van Buuren's A State Of Trance Radio show episode 469. This means that a remix or track by Aly & Fila has now appeared on Armin Van Buurens A State of Trance Radio Show 12 weeks out of the last 14 weeks
When you consider all they’ve accomplished in such a short amount of time, and have rallied the support of some of the biggest names in dance music such as Armin Van Buuren, have played at some of the most prestigious events and venues across the world, and continue to release, track after track, remix after remix, there’s no telling where this duo will end up.
On July 4th, 2011, Arty released his massive, big-room house anthem "Around the World" on Anjunabeats following unprecedented support across the board from Axwell, Chuckie, Hardwell, Tiesto, Robbie Rivera, Armin Van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Gareth Emery and an extended list of the biggest names in electronic music of the moment on the biggest events of the year such as the Swedish House Mafia's performance on the main stage of the record-breaking Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas in June 2011. Artem Stolyarov has himself already been around the world and back having played events across the globe from the most prestigious clubs to some of the biggest festivals including Global Gathering, Gatecrasher and ASOT 500 in Den Bosch.
In autumn 2010 Arty made his debut in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll as #78 in the world while being listed by many peers in the same centurion as the breakthrough artist of the year, which was subsequently followed by nomination for Best Breakthrough DJ at the 2011 IDMA awards. As Arty said in an interview in summer 2010, "I think that your goals must be difficult to achieve; reaching such goals is the most exciting thing that encourages me to develop as an artist", and with so much achieved so far in his fledgling career with over 30 releases on labels from Armada to Black Hole, topping Beatport charts and being supported on countless radio shows by other top artists this hard-working attitude indicates only more to come.
In 2011 alone some of his productions such as the collaboration "Rebound" with Mat Zo have been among the most played tracks around and to add to his already-impressive remixology resumé he has been handpicked for duties on some high-profile release packages to be announced soon. Confirmed for Audiotistic Festival in LA and Electric Zoo Festival in New York as debuts in each city, the 21-year old Russian native continues relentlessly moving forward setting the bar for what constitutes a rookie year in every possible area of his career.
Gareth Emery is one of dance music’s most influential and innovative DJ producers, voted no.7 in DJ Mag’s ‘Top 100 DJs’ poll making him the UK’s highest ranked DJ, and one of the youngest DJs ever to crack the top ten. In 2010, he released his debut artist album ‘Northern Lights’ on his own label Garuda to stunning reactions from fans and critics alike, hitting no.1 on the US iTunes dance chart within hours of release.
He also celebrated 100 episodes and four years of his award winning podcast, collaborated with Above & Beyond for the crossover international radio hit ‘On A Good Day (Metropolis)’, and penned the theme tune of the Global Gathering festival - whilst also finding time to play 130 shows, selling out clubs and rocking festivals in 40 countries to over 2 million people.
Armin van Buuren has been named number one in the prestigious DJ MAG Top 100 poll four times in a row, in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, as the first DJ in the history of the DJ Magazine and an indication of his prolific output over the more than 15 years he’s been dj’ing and producing. In 2011, he became second in the critically acclaimed popularity poll, taking in a Top 3 position for the 8th year running. Being one of the world’s most popular DJ’s is just one of his many achievements, but the driving force behind his success is an overriding passion for dance music.
Awards & Accolades
Even a basic list of recent successes reads like a lifetime of work: he was awarded with the prestigious Buma Cultuur Pop Award in 2008. This was followed by being voted as the Best Trance Artist in the Beatport Music Awards judged on the musician’s artistic achievements, national and international success. Next to that, Armin was awarded for ‘Best European DJ’ at the 2009 IDMA Awards, followed by ‘Best Global DJ’ in 2010 and most popular International DJ at Australia’s Sony inthemix DJ Poll, along with 3 other big Awards. In March 2010, Armin received the ‘Gouden Harp’, the highest distinction a Dutch artist can get. On Queensday 2011, Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands named Armin Officer in the Order of Oranje-Nassau. The Royal Distinction was handed to him after his set in hometown Leiden by mayor Lenferink of Leiden. It is evident that Armin van Buuren has become one of the decade’s most influential trance acts.
But there’s more. ‘Best Album’ for artist album ‘Shivers’ at both the Dutch Release Dance Awards and the prestigious Edison Awards; ‘Best Compilation’ for ‘A State Of Trance 2006’, claiming the ‘Best European DJ’ award in 2007 and ‘Best Mix Radio Show’ at the Miami Winter Music Conference 5 years in a row for radio show ‘A State Of Trance’ – now broadcasting on a massive 40 FM stations as well as satellite and internet radio, with over 15 million listeners a week; over 50,000 downloads every week from podcasting high end chart-bothering positions all over the world for singles, albums and compilations, with single ‘Rush Hour’ used as the anthem to the UEFA European Youth Championship; the #1 entry in the Dutch album charts with his artist album ‘Imagine’, the #1 entry of the DVD registration of ‘Armin Only ‘ Imagine’, a golden record for ‘Mirage’ on selling more than 25.000 copies in the Netherlands – the landmarks just keep coming!
Armin’s own productions have all made a huge impact and quickly gain worldwide acclaim; his third artist album titled ‘Imagine’ entered the Dutch Album Top 100 Chart at number one; this is the first time a dance producer has ever accomplished such a feat in the history of Dutch music. The ‘Armin Only – Imagine DVD’ was also released and reached the acclaimed number one spot in its second week. The music video of ‘In & Out of Love’, the hit-single with singer Sharon den Adel, received more than 100 million views on YouTube, holding the first position on the Dutch Top 10 of most viewed videos all-time. Armin’s back catalogue includes Blue Fear, Communication, Sound of Goodbye, Shivers, Rush Hour, Burned With Desire, Exhale, Love You More, This World Is Watching Me, and Yet Another Day. While the remix offers flood in, Armin only takes on tracks that he really loves. He uses exactly the same criteria for his compilations, meaning that every release from Armin or his long-running Armind or A State of Trance label is a bone fide stormer that’s earned its place. His output includes tracks for the cult TV series 24 and the likes of Motorcycle, The Killers, Faithless, BT and Kerli.
But, as a true artist befits, Armin keeps creating new music and has released his fourth artist album, ‘Mirage’, in September 2010. For the album, Armin collaborated with the likes of BT, Christian Burns, Ferry Corsten, Adam Young and Nadia Ali. ‘Mirage’ reached golden status in The Netherlands only 3 months after its release, selling more than 25.000 copies. After the first single, the instrumental, powerful trance track ‘Full Focus’, the second release of the album was a collaboration with Sophie Ellis-Bextor, ‘Not Giving Up On Love’. ‘This Light Between Us’, featuring Christian Burns, and ‘Drowning’ with singer Laura V, were the follow-up singles, as well as his collab with Nadia Ali, ‘Feels So Good’. In Juni 2011, the official remix album of ‘Mirage’ was released. ‘Mirage – The Remixes’ includes remixes by Avicii, BT, Dash Berlin, Jerome Isma-Ae, 16 Bit Lolita’s, Tocadisco, Kyau & Albert, W&W and many more.
A State of Trance & ASOT 500
But aside from recognition and ever-going fan support, it’s the music that means most to Armin. The perfect example of that given fact, is his weekly 2-hour radioshow ‘A State of Trance’. Listened to by 15 million EDM lovers, he continues to deliver his fans a selection of the best in trance and progressive, no matter how busy his tour schedule might be. A State of Trance 500, the 10th anniversary of the show, was celebrated in 5 different countries on 5 different continents; South-Africa, the Netherlands, USA, Argentina and Australia. All A State Of Trance 500 events were broadcast live.
ASOT Podcast and A State of Sundays
In addition to the weekly show, Armin also started the weekly ASOT podcasts, which contain highlights and Armin’s favourite tracks from the previous episode, to ensure that trance lovers across the world will never miss another episode. Every Sunday, Armin van Buuren hosts a 24 hour radio day called ‘A State of Sunday’, broadcasted on one of the biggest radiostations of the US, Sirius XM Satellite Radio. Next to the A State of Trance shows, the show also introduces its listeners to special sets of other popular DJ’s and talented artists.
A State of Trance compilations
Armin’s annual A State of Trance compilations have won several awards and continue to lead the trance fans in the right trancy direction with a fresh and exclusive selection of tracks. The 8th edition of the series, A State of Trance 2011, was released in March 2011. As if one compilation isn’t enough yet, Armin has been live recording some of his sets on Ibiza and released them under the ‘Universal Religion’ series. The summer of 2011 saw the 5th edition of this beloved series, a one hour live recording of Armin’s residency at Club Space.
Performances & Armin Only
Being the world’s number 1 DJ sees the Dutch DJ perform at some of the world’s biggest and best festivals, clubs, events and shows. One of the highlights of 2010 was Armin’s DJ set at the Museumplein in Amsterdam in July, during the honoring of the Dutch soccer team. Even though the national team lost in the FIFA Worldcup, they partied like they were the absolute winners, and so did the 200.000 strong crowd.
Sold-out shows for Armin Only in 2005 and 2006 created eager anticipation of the third edition, which kicked off in a sold-out Jaarbeurs in Utrecht in 2008; over 16,000 fans attended and were enthralled by the DJ’s nine hour set. On New Years Eve 2008-2009, Armin managed to draw 35,000 people to his Armin Only show in the Los Angeles Sports Arena, making him the first Dutch DJ ever to have drawn such a big crowd to an own event.
For his fourth artist album, ‘Mirage’, Armin kicked off another Armin Only World tour: Mirage. After the first show in the sold-out Jaarbeurs in Utrecht on November 13th, Armin will continue to travel the globe with shows in 15 different countries, ranging from Australia to Ukraine, Argentina, Libanon and more. The Blu-Ray/DVD of ‘Armin Only – Mirage’, including the highlights of the kick-off and many extra’s and specials, has been released in February 2011.
Amsterdam based record label Armada music was created in 2003 by Armin van Buuren, Maykel Piron and David Lewis. Releasing tracks by some of the biggest names in trance, progressive and house, plus organizing several club nights, had Armada gaining a steady and ever growing position in the dance industry. With 23 imprints residing under one umbrella, Armada has definitely proven to be working hard and after 8 years still feel passionate for top quality music.
Armin & New Media
In October 2009, Armin had the premiere of launching the first full music DVD as an application for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The complete DVD of Armin’s ‘Armin Only’ concert in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, is available as an app. After downloading the app, users can see the full live registration on their iPhone or iPod Touch.
New media is something that surely gets Armin’s attention. Armin’s YouTube channel, as part of the Armada Music channel, is one of the most viewed channels on the net. The music video for Armin’s ‘In & Out of Love’ has received more than 100 million views, and is therefore the most viewed music video of alltime within all categories on the Dutch YouTube. On Armin’s YouTube, his fans can find the official music videos, exclusive interviews, specials, previews and party reports.
On the road biography ‘Armin Only’
The author of ‘Eén op Eén’(Dutch title), Coen Bom, has followed Armin around the world for over a year. He reports about the hectic life of one of the most popular DJ’s of this moment. During the process of writing ‘Armin Only’, Armin was voted ‘most popular DJ of the world’ by the readers of British Magazine DJ Mag in their annual ‘DJ Mag Top 100′. Coen Bom challenged himself to dig deep in Armin’s past and present to find an answer to the question ‘what is the key to Armin’s success?’.
How it all began
Born in Leiden, Holland (on December 25, 1976) to a musical family, Armin indulged his passion for music from a young age. He spent all the money he earned with his paper round on records. His mum won a computer when he was 10, gaining Armin’s interest. “So as a little nerdy kid I was writing my own basic programs, and learnt about the technology from there.” He progressed from making low-profile mix tapes for friends to higher profile mixes when he discovered experimenting with different sequences on his computer through his uncle. “I was so stunned by what I saw him doing on the computer, that I got addicted to creating music right there and then!”
“I loved dance music immediately – this great rebellious sound that was so different to the ‘beautiful’ songs of the years before”. Armin cites electronic pioneer Jean Michel Jarre as a major influence, as well as Dutch producer Ben Liebrand, who later mentored him in his mixing and producing.
In the early days, Armin thought it was wise to have something extra in case the dj’ing didn’t work out. So he studied for a law degree. The final year of his course was inevitably stretched as he juggled his studies with his increasingly hectic schedule; his rise to fame included lots of productions and remixes, as well as playing out to packed clubs every weekend. It took him three years to graduate, but his determination made him succeed!
Armin is a dedicated trance lover, but isn’t imprisoned by a single genre, saying “What makes trance work so well is that it doesn’t stick to one style, and can incorporate electro, minimal, whatever it likes.”
The main ingredient to Armin’s life will always be music. “This is just what I really want,” says Armin. “It’s not just love for music, it’s my passion. It goes beyond liking, and beyond a hobby, it’s about a way of living. Music is essential to my life”.
